Space of Mind
Space of Mine is a modular cabin designed by Finnish Studio Puisto. It is a project of small cabins that are developed as a response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. It is a prefabricated cabin that can be placed anywhere, and due to the flexible interior design, it can be used for anything from an office to a retreat far away from home. Another reason for look at this precedent study was the material use. They have used timber to clad the interior as well as the exterior, which is both a sustainable material choice, and also fitting for the environment it is placed in. The timber weathers over time, and therefore adapts well, which is something I like and would like to consider as a cladding material for the design of my hideout.
The Old Pumphouse, Nottingham
The Old Pumphouse is a restored building that was bought by Franklin Ellis Architects in 2008. It was restored and extended by 8000 square feet, for their own office (which can be seen in black).
I really like the contrast between the red brick building and the new black addition.
As the building I have chosen for my hideout is a red brick building, I would like to do something similar to this building. I would like to use a charred timber material as this would be a nice contrast to the brick. Especially being located in Digbeth, it would be nice to show this contrast between the old and the new.

Own house in Sweden
In my childhood home in Sweden we had a small "guesthouse" in the backyard. This was a small space of about 25m2, that although small, had all the necessities to be able to live in- much like the requirements for this project. What I liked about this space, was the big glass panels, that lit up the entire home, and it is something I will have in mind as inspiration when designing my hideout. A struggle with the space was the very vertical stairs, and the low ceiling height on the second floor. This is also something I will think about when designing my hideout, as this is something I would definitely change.
A Little Design
A Little Design is a Taiwanese studio that in 2019, converted a piano studio into a 17.6 square-meter flat in Taipei, Taiwan. Although the space is very small, it has been reconfigured to fit in all the daily necessities. The minimalistic color scheme, assists in making this space seem bigger than what it actually is. Due to the lack of space, many pieces of furniture in the home have been made multifunctional. For example, the stairs open to have storage inside, as well as storage under the sofa in the livingroom, and storing cabinets when walking up the stairs.
This apartment has been designed wisely, and the very small space is optimized well to match the needs of the client who moves around a lot.
