"A typeface for the whole community"
Dn&co. were assigned with the brief to "create a strong voice and place brand that resonated with this industrious community of proudly individual businesses".
The company has created a design that recognizes the area's industrial history. They yellow color used is "a nod to the innovative eggless Bird's custard powder, invented and manufactures in Digbeth from 1837".
Seeing the branding work done by Dn&co. to create a recognizable image for Digbeth, can be used as an inspiration in my work in several ways. Given that the co-housing project I am designing is located in Digbeth I would like to somehow integrate this color or font into parts of the building.

Future Developments
One of the most significant current developments in the Digbeth area is the Beorma development. This development is split into 3 phases where they plan to a hotel, offices, apartments, and a large range of retail offerings. Their mission is to become "the new icon for Birmingham" and will also bring "a new range of innovative and entrepreneurial companies to shape the future of the area." (https://beormaquarter.com/digbeth-regeneration/).
The HS2 due to open in 2026 which will also create a large amount of new opportunities for the city. As it will be easier to travel to and from major cities, such as London, it is probable that this will attract people to come to Birmingham. In addition to the HS2 development, the Paternoster Place development will have a major impact on Digbeth as it aims to transform pedestrian connections into the area. New developments are estimated to create over 5,000 jobs.

Site Visit
I visited the site to capture the different brick buildings in Digbeth, as well as graffiti that caught my eye. During this visit it became very apparent that the best and most fitting material for the cladding of my design would be brick, as this would mean it would blend in with the surrounding buildings.
Limitations to site:
As the site is placed between two other buildings, there is a minimal amount of sunlight entering the building. Therefore, there is a need for a lot of windows, so that daylight can still enter the spaces. One way of optimizing the little amount of sunlight there is, would be to build taller than the neighbouring buildings- potentially by making a rooftop garden.
