Glacial Currents- Olafur Eliasson
These watercolor pieces were produced by using chunks of ancient glacial ice that was fished off the coast of Greenland. To create the unique works, the ice is placed on top of color pigments on thick sheets of paper. The ice gradually melts, and a result the water moves around the pigment. The result of each work is very unique and unpredictable, however, the pigments blend very well together to create an almost mesmerizing result.

"Camouflaging"
Haus 6 by Sauerburch Hutton - Berlin, Germany
After receiving feedback about considering camouflaging as a concept related to "blend", I looked into buildings and also specifically cohousing projects that have applied the idea of camouflaging to their design. One of the best examples I came across was the Haus 6 in Berlin, which is a cohousing group intended for 10 parties. The architects have used stainless steel cladding to create a reflection that allows the building to blend in very well with its surroundings.

"The landscape strategy aimed to respond and mimic the existing ora and fauna of the site in a designed aspect. The social area is on the rest level, within a mirrored glass envelope that simultaneously reflects and contains the lush surrounding"

Social Balconies
The next instalment of our Dezeen x MINI Living series features a concept for a modular balcony system designed to encourage good relations between neighbours.
Entitled Social Balconies, the project was designed by product designer and recent Design Academy Eindhoven graduate, Edwin Van Capelleveen.
The concept consists of a pair of modular components that connect pre-existing balconies, creating shared spaces between neighbours for communal activity.
